Mobile technology in the field data collection and management AbstractMobile devices can be used for bridge inspection and collect all the required asset information without field notes and complete bridge inspection quickly. Mobile devices eliminate the need to fill out field inspection paper forms by hand and retype this data on the computer to compile reports. Inspection and ancillary data including pictures are collected in the field with global positioning system-enabled devices. This provides time-saved visualized members input and customized section data input from the office and on the web. Automated field inspection forms or reports are generated automatically using the field data collection database and can be sent to the client immediately if bridge condition is critical.
