Involution of tradition and existential authenticity of the resident group in Nyuh-Kuning village

Involution of tradition and existential authenticity of the resident group in Nyuh-Kuning village This paper aims to discuss how various discourses on tourism and tradition are projected onto rural communities in the process of tourism development. By looking at the relationship between the acquisition of existential authenticity of tourists and elaboration of traditions, the cultural practice of villagers in a tourist village is discussed. The Nyuh-Kuning is changing into tourist village due to evolving tourism trends. Residents continue to practice traditional rituals, pursue a clean environment, and build unity and mutual trust in the community. This process is favorably accepted by tourists. In the end, the cultural practice of Nyuh-Kuning residents is used as a means to reconstruct the village community’s identity and tourism environment as part of the traditional involution strategy. http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png Journal of Tourism and Cultural Change Taylor & Francis
