Since then, we realized that the GITMA community was indeed global and enthusiastic about institutionalizing an arena for vigorous discussions on global IT management - but interestingly, the South American academia seemed not to be aware of its existence and mission. So, when Dr. Palvia, GITMA President, offered Dr. Bellini the opportunity to serve as track chair for IT in South America in the following annual meetings, we were delighted with the perspective of promoting GITMA especially among our colleagues in Brazil. But chairing that track in such an important conference like GITMA was not enough to stimulate Brazilian researchers to communicate their findings to the international audience on global IT management. Although research in Brazil developed greatly in the last years, now representing almost 2% of the total articles published in scientific journals worldwide (Drugowich, 2008) and with two universities ranking among the top 200 in the world in 2007 (World University Rankings, 2007), such an improvement was http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png Journal of Global Information Technology Management Taylor & Francis
