Nursing Research in Israel Chapter 10 CONTENTS Development of Nursing Research: Organizing Frameworks Israeli Health Care System: An Overview Method of Review Historical Development of Nursing Research in Israel The 1960s (1959-1970) The 1970s (1971-IQRO) The 1980s (1981-1990) The 1990s (1992-1993) Reseatch Dissemination From the Past into the Present: Major Trends and Activities The National Survey of Quality of Care The Research Groups of the Forum fir Psychogeriatric Nursing Future Trends Recent years have witnessed an upsurge of review publications mncerning the development of nursing research on several levels: national (Hopps, 1994; Lerheirn, 1994: Van Swieten-Duyfjes & Grypdonck, 19941, continental (Tier- ney, 19941, and international (Bergman, 1990a, 1% Kim, 1994; Meleis, 1994). This chapter offers a review of Israeli nursing research during the past 35 years. Its purpose is to highlight basic processes and factors that have shaped nursing research in Israel and thus contribute to the international macro-analysis dialogue currently under way. National-level reviews are useful both for cre- ating an international comparative data source and for instigating self-reflec- tion and development. According to Cooper (1982) and Ganong (1 9871, the review constitutes primary research in itself, demanding systematic data se- lection and analysis.
