Long attributed to senility, hardening of lhe arteries, or the aging process, Senile Dementia of the Alzheimer's Type or Alzheimer's disease (AD) is now a household word. Approximately 10% of persons between the ages of 65 and 75 years and 25% of those over 85 are reponed to suffer some form of dementia (Evans et aI., 1989).
