Larson (1988) conducted a systematic review of the pre­ vious 52 months of nursing literature in 46 different Engtish-Ianguage journals and found 169 articles in which some aspect of acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) was discussed. In analysis of these articles, Larson found that 24% were related to some aspect of nursing care and 22% were related to public policy issues; none contained reports of nursing research. In contrast, 46% of the 481 artic1es retrieved from the medical literature for a 6-month period in 1986 were reports of related re­ search.
