Minkin Received July 24, 2000 It is well known [1–4] that the inversion 1a ceeds through transition structure 6 with the T-shaped 2 1b of three-coordinate pyramidal hydrides 1 bond configuration at the pnicogen atom, which forms (XH , where X = N, P, As, and Sb) proceeds through the the three-center four-electron (3c, 4e) bond O–Y–R. planar D configuration 2 with the activation barrier 3h O O increasing from 5.3 kcal/mol for ammonia (X = N) [2] Y R Y R to ~40Ð44 kcal/mol for X = As and Sb [4].
