Tribute to Alexander Reid Martin 1896–1983 Tribute to Alexander Reid Martin 1896-1983 INTRODUCTION On November 30, 1983, members of the Association for the ,Advance- ment of Psychoanalysis, the American Institute for Psychoanalysis, and many friends gathered to pay tribute to the memory of Dr. Alexander Reid Martin, one of the founders of the group and a guiding spirit to many of those who have trained and taught at the Institute over the past forty years. The evening was organized and presided over by Dr. Martin Symonds. Those who spoke or contributed written comments were: Dr. Martin Symonds Dr. Alexandra Symoncls Dr. Douglas Ingram Dr. Edward Clemmens Mr. Roger Martin Dr. Jeffrey Rubin Mr. Alex Martin Dr. Helen De Rosis Dr. Bella van Bark Mr. David Wynn Ms. Janet Gibbs Dr. Eleanor Yachnes Dr. Harry Gershman Dr. Marie Badaracco The atmosphere that evening was one of warm appreciation rather than grief. Many commented that we were each speaking of the same person, each of us recognizing Alec Martin in the others' reminiscences. Space and editorial policy do not permit the inclusion of all the personal reminis- cences and testimonials so generously given.
