Psychoanalytic Education: A Twenty-Five Year Experience
Summary My attempt has been to show that there are fundamental and wide areas of agreement in psychoanalytic theory and technique, as formulated. By focusing on these, wasting no energies to proving others wrong, only when necessary warding off attempts at interference with open forums for discussion, while devoting most of our energies to defining the issues in this transitional phase will we be better able to preserve and develop what psychoanalysis can offer now and in the future. I have attempted to indicate that there are aspects of psychoanalytic theory and technique which are fundamental in psychoanalytic education and that every political ideology has been forced to realize that interference with the unbiased approach has blocked their advances in science. The preservation and enhancement of these aspects of psychoanalytic education are our greatest opportunity and our greatest responsibility.
