The role of posterior surgery in spinal tuberculosis

The role of posterior surgery in spinal tuberculosis Debridement, decompression and fusion for tuberculous affliction of the dorsal or lumbar spine has traditionally been performed using either an anterior approach alone or a combined anterior plus posterior approach. To overcome the morbidity associated with an anterior exposure, posterolateral approaches such as the transpedicular, the costotransversectomy and the lateral extracavitary approach to the dorsal spine and the trans-foraminal approach in the lumbar spine have been advocated for treating patients with spinal trauma and tumors. Since May 2002, we have successfully used posterolateral approaches to perform decompression, anterior reconstruction and posterior stabilization in patients with spinal tuberculosis through a single incision and with limited morbidity. http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png ArgoSpine News & Journal Springer Journals

Abstract

Debridement, decompression and fusion for tuberculous affliction of the dorsal or lumbar spine has traditionally been performed using either an anterior approach alone or a combined anterior plus posterior approach.
