We have tonight one of those strange coincidences which raise new facets of this question, because the conjunction of the stars which brings Dr. 10 BULLETIN OF THE ORTON SOCIETY Alien and myself to the same meeting is a conjunction which first began to be apparent in the heavens two generations ago, when our grandmothers went to school together in the small community of Duffield Junction, Virginia, and I would take this as a most unlikely result of that event. You remember that President Kennedy, on the occasion of his visit to New Haven to receive an honorary degree from Yale University said that as a Harvard graduate, the recipient of a Yale degree, he had the best of two worlds. Abstract

RIGHT TO READ---REEMPHASIZED 9 by JAMES E. ALLEN, JR., PH.D. with Introduction by Senator Charles MeC. Mathias and Responses by: Archie A. Silver, M.D. Arlene W. Jones, M.A. Katrina de Hirsch, F.C.S.T. at The Twenty-first Annual Conference of THE ORTON SOCIETY Shoreham Hotel, Washington, D. C. November 13, 1970 INTRODUCTION Senator Charles McC. Mathias One of the unresolved philosophical questions which perplexes man- kind is the question of whether history makes men or men make history.
