The 50th anniversary of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences

The 50th anniversary of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences Thermophysics and Aeromechanics, 2007, Vol. 14, No. 1 THE 50th ANNIVERSARY OF THE SIBERIAN BRANCH OF THE RUSSIAN ACADEMY OF SCIENCES On May 18, 1957, the Soviet Government adopted a decree about establishing the Siberian Branch of the Academy of Sciences (SB AS USSR). The initiative for this his- torical decision was backed up by several prominent scientists: academicians M.A. Lavrentyev, S.A. Khristianovich, and S.L. Sobolev. They promoted the idea of creating a new territorial division of Academy and supported this idea by personal deci- sion to reallocate it from the capital to Siberia together with their scientific schools. The founders of SB AS understood the significance of publishing opportunities for researchers. That is why the Novosibirsk-published journal “Bulletin from Eastern Affiliations of AS USSR” was transformed into a new periodical “Bulletin of Siberian Branch of AS USSR”. This journal was headed, successively, by academicians S.L. Sobolev, V.V. Struminsky, and M.F. Zhukov. This journal was a place for publish- ing the reviews, original papers in different fields, in natural and humanitarian sciences developed at the academic institutes of the Siberian Branch. This was also a place for methodical materials, bibliography; the section “Chronicles” informed the readers about current events http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png Thermophysics and Aeromechanics Springer Journals
