The themes that are addressed not only touch on some of the most important socio-spatial aspects of investigation in contemporary South African—and international—urban studies (e.g. housing, inner city revitali- zation, urban tourism, urban management) but also introduce emerging themes of inquiry (e.g. role of churches, arts festivals, a focus on suburbs). The book comprises ten chapters (195 pages) and a total of nine scholars (well-experienced urban scholars as well as upcoming urban specialists of whom most are black or female) made contributions, all based at the University of the Free State.
