MEMBERS OF SCIENTIFIC COMMUNITY Sergei Konstantinovich Korovin (A Tribute in Honor of His Sixtieth Birthday) On May 24, 2005, Sergei Konstantinovich Korovin, Full Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, celebrated his sixtieth birthday. He is the author of distinguished scienti c results in control theory and automation, stability theory, systems theory, and optimization theory. Korovin was born in Moscow. After graduating from eleven-year secondary school no. 713 with a silver medal in 1963, he entered the Department of Radio Technics and Cybernetics at Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology and graduated in 1969. In these years, numerous em- inent scientists, including F.R. Gantmakher, P.L. Kapitsa, S.M. Nikol'skii, L.D. Kudryavtsev, and E.F. Mishchenko, teached at the institute, and their in uence on young people taking a great inter- est in science was enormous. As is customary at the PhysTech, Korovin started his scienti c work already when studying at the institute, rst in M.A. Aizerman's laboratory under L.I. Rozonoer's and A.V. Malishevskii's supervision and then in S.V. Emel'yanov's laboratory http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png Differential Equations Springer Journals
