Using two case studies the relation between the stochastic model and the corresponding real situation or problem is being discussed. The first case study refers to a murder trial, where two experts — using laboratory results — calculated probabilities up to 99,94 % for the defendant’s guilt. (The defendant was later acquitted, since he was proved to be innocent.) Secondly the methods with which a probability of one for the Fermat-Conjecture was arrived at are being investigated.
