This note is dedicated to Albert van der Werff (1903–1991), the Dutch diatom expert, distributing his extended knowledge to numerous students interested in aquatic ecology. His drawings of the resting cysts ofChaetoceros affine Lauder andCh. constrictum Gran, not figured in his diatom flora (van der werff andhuls, 1957–1974), are published and discussed. The figures represent a valuable contribution to taxonomical literature.
