Cosmocerca ornata is a widely distributed species reported from Europe, Asia and Africa. No description of Cosmocerca ornata as such is available from India though nematodes described as Cosmocerca indica, Cosmocerca macrogubernaculum, Paracosmocerca spinocerca and Paracosmocerca indica have been synonymised with C. ornata. Original descriptions of these species are inadequate and/or erroneous. Present paper deals with a detailed description of C. ornata, using both light microscopy and Scanning electron microscopy, recovered from a new anuran host, Hoplobatrachus crassus in West Bengal, India. The Birbhum district, West Bengal is recorded as a new geographical locality for C. ornata.
