Considering its central importance to fields represented by the readership of this journal, we have assembled a special issue focusing on current research in aspects of logic related to computational complexity and combinatorics. From the 1930's to the 1960% logicians were primarily concerned with the development of proof systems and the extent to which true logical statements were provable in them.
