Izotov Received November 2, 2018 Abstract—A new method was proposed to produce high-f lexural-strength corundum ceramics from α-Al O 2 3 samples synthesized by heat treatment of boehmite AlOOH at 1300°C for 5 h. It was shown that hydrothermal treatment of MDGA-grade hydrargillite at 200°C in a 0.4 wt % magnesium acetate solution for 3 days gives f inely crystalline boehmite, which is a feedstock for synthesizing corundum ceramics with a f lexural strength of 400 MPa.
