A casebook by Mich~le Porte in tribute to Ren6 Thorn, the French mathematician, has just been published in French, entitled "Passion des Formes" (Passion for Forms) and subtitled: "Dynamique qualitative, S6miophysique et Intelligibilit6" (Qualitative dynamics, Semiophysics and Intelligibility). As a preface, two essays open up these two volumes amounting to over 800 pages, giving us an overview. Their keywords are quite telling: "Catastrophe Theory - Analytical extension - Shock - Aristotle's Physics - Qualitative, Formal Theory of Intelligibility - Function - Gender - Genericity" by Ren6 Thorn, echoed by those of Mich~le Porte: " Catastrophe Theory - Semiophysics - Continuum - Time - Logos - Ambiguity". In fact, this book could have been entitled: "From Catastrophe Theory to Semiophysics".
