The Psychology of Day-Dreams
Summary An attempt has been made to emphasize the importance of daydreams in psychoanalytical work. Daydreams, although they occur in every human being, show specific manifestations in neurotic and pre-psychotic individuals and may disappear in severe neurotic and in psychotic conditions. During psychoanalytic treatment, change of the character and of the frequency of daydreams is a helpful indicator in the observation of the patient. Daydreams are a valuable substitute for and complement of dream material. Because of their great value for diagnosis and prognosis, and in therapy, consideration of the various forms of daydreams seems to be indispensable in psychoanalysis.
