MEMBERS OF SCIENTIFIC COMMUNITY Nikolai Nikolaevich Krasovskii (a Tribute in Honor of His 80th Birthday) On September 7, 2004, Academician Nikolai Nikolaevich Krasovskii, a distinguished Russian mathematician and specialist in mechanics, the author of fundamental papers in the eld of qual- itative theory of di erential equations, stability and stabilization theory of dynamical systems, mathematical optimal control theory, and theory of di erential games, celebrated his eightieth birthday. Krasovskii was born in Yekaterinburg to a physician's family. His scienti c activities began as early as in his freshman year at Ural Polytechnic Institute (Sverdlovsk, Russia) under the su- pervision of Professor S.N. Chernikov, who held the mathematics chair. After graduation from the institute in 1949, Krasovskii worked at the chair for ten years as assistant professor, senior lecturer, professor, and nally holder of the chair. In 1955{1957, he was a postdoctoral student at the Institute of Mechanics, Academy of Sciences of the USSR (Moscow). In 1959, he transferred to the Department of Mathematics and Mechanics of Ural State University http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png Differential Equations Springer Journals
