Bokuchava defended his doctoral dissertation entitled “Tannins and Oxidative Ferments of Georgian Tea.” In 1954, M. Bokuchava was elected a professor. In 1952, Bokuchava became the head of the Laboratory of Technical Biochemistry at the Bakh Institute of Biochemistry, in which he worked for more than 50 years. While working in Moscow, Prof. Bokuchava main tained his contacts with Georgia and headed the Lab oratory of Tea Leaf Biochemistry (Institute of Plant Biochemistry, Academy of Sciences of the Georgian Soviet Socialist Republic (SSR)). In 1961, Prof. Bokuchava was elected a corresponding member and in 1979 was elected an academician of the Academy of Sciences of the Georgian SSR.
