Die Familie rückt als ein Ort früher mathematischer Lernprozesse zunehmend in den Blick von Forschung, Politik und Gesellschaft. Vorliegende Forschungsergebnisse zeigen, dass dabei neben dem mathematischen Inhalt auch die Art und Weise, wie Familien über Mathematik sprechen und Mathematik in ihren Alltag einbinden, von Bedeutung ist. Der vorliegende Beitrag fokussiert auf Unterstützungssysteme für das Mathematiklernen von Vorschulkindern, die in der Interaktion zwischen Mutter und Kind etabliert werden und die die kindliche mathematische Entwicklung prägen. Solche Unterstützungssysteme werden interaktionistisch ausgedeutet und mit Mitteln der Interpretativen Forschung anhand von Daten aus alltäglichen Vorlese- und Spielsituationen untersucht. Als qualitativ-deskriptives Ergebnis werden drei unterschiedliche Typen von Unterstützungssystemen vorgestellt und theoretisch voneinander abgegrenzt. Damit wird einerseits umrissen, wie vielfältig die Unterstützung mathematischer Lernprozesse in der Familie realisiert werden kann, und andererseits wird der Untersuchungsgegenstand theoretisch-begrifflich so strukturiert, dass eine Übertragung der Erkenntnisse auf andere Forschungs- und Praxiszusammenhänge prinzipiell möglich ist.
