Abstract

Planning an in-service course on computers in mathematics education for teachers of grades 5–10 was the starting point for some general considerations about this subject. We discuss why such a course should not be restricted to teaching a programming language or topics of computer science. Consequently we sketch the basic concepts and typical fields of computer use in the mathematics curriculum.
