September 1941 in St. Pölten, Niederösterreich) ist einer der international bekanntesten deutschsprachigen Statistiker; seine wissenschaftli- chen Schwerpunkte liegen in der Ökonometrie und in der Zeitreihenanalyse. Darüber hinaus gibt es von ihm wegweisende Beiträge zur Systemtheorie. Nach einem Diplom in Elektrotechnik (TH Wien, 1964), einer anschließenden Tätigkeit in der Industrie (bis 1966) und einem Diplom in Wirtschaftswissenschaften (IHS, 1968) promovierte Manfred Deistler 1970 an der TU Wien in angewandter Mathematik. Er arbeitete von 1968–1971 als wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter von Peter Schönfeld an der Uni Regensburg, folgte dann Peter Schönfeld an die Uni Bonn, wurde dort 1973 außerordentlicher Professor und wechselte im Jahr 1978 als ordentlicher Professor für Ökonometrie und Nachfolger von Gerhard Tintner an die TU Wien, der er trotz alternativer Angebote bis zu seiner Emeritierung 2009 treu geblieben ist. Das Buch Hannan/Deistler: The Statistical Theory of Linear Systems, gilt heute als Klassiker. Darüber hinaus äußert sich sein wissenschaftlicher Einfluss auch in der erstaunlichen Zahl von 35 Doktoranden und Habilitanden, von denen mehrere derzeit in Deutschland, Österreich, den USA, Kanada und Indonesien Universitäts-
