The influence of the endogenous respiration of active sludge on the bichromate oxidizability (chemical oxygen demand) and coloration of coke-plant wastewater is investigated. The high chemical oxygen demand of purified wastewater is due to secondary pollution by the oxidation products of the active sludge.
