Forword FOREWORD The Annals of Dyslexia is an interdisciplinary journal published by The Orton Dyslexia Society and dedicated to the understanding, prevention and remediation of reading disability. Consistent with these goals, our volume this year begins with an in-depth discussion of how best to define dyslexia in light of current research. We go on to include several papers on the cognitive underpinnings of dyslexia, followed by a trio of studies in which theory and research have been successfully applied to the reme- diation of deficits in reading, writing and mathematics. Because learning and language disabilities manifest themselves in a broad array of individ- uals, not all of them necessarily dyslexic, we include four papers looking more carefully at the learning difficulties of medical students, foreign lan- guage learners, youth with psychiatric disorders and youngsters with specific language impairment. We end with an update on the issue of lat- erality in dyslexics. Many individuals contributed to the success of this year's volume. First and foremost, its success depends crucially on the Editorial Board and Associate Editors who provided so many insightful and constructive com- ments on the many manuscripts submitted to the journal; we are grateful too to the large number http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png Annals of Dyslexia Springer Journals
