Extensive research on coal, coking batch, and coke has shown the broad utility of reflectogram analysis in coke chemistry—for example, in distinguishing between concentrates with broadly similar properties (twins), in producing coke of high quality, and in predicting the jamming and drilling of coke ovens. The interactions in coking batch that contains petrographically nonuniform coal are analyzed. The coking index proposed considerably simplifies and improves the model for predicting coke quality.
