Foreword

Foreword Annals of Dyslexia brings to its readers in its thirty-fourth issue a group of papers representing the best theoretical and practical work in the field of dyslexia. This year papers based on presentations at The Orton Dyslexia Society's conferences in San Diego in 1983 and Baltimore in 1982 are balanced by a number of fine papers submitted directly to the journal. Each paper considered for publication undergoes a stringent peer review procedure, being read by at least two reviewers with special knowledge in the field to which the paper's topic pertains. To these reviewers the authors and the editor are indebted; their thought- ful and extensive commentaries contribute significantly to the quality of this publication. As my first year as Managing Editor draws to an end, I extend appreciation to all who have contributed to the 1984 issue. Working with the authors, associate editors, editorial advisory board, and the staff of The Orton Dyslexia Society office has been stimulating and rewarding. I am particularly grateful for the guidance given by Elinor Hartwig, my predecessor, and for the counsel of Margaret Rawson and Regina Cicci. Readers are encouraged to submit manuscripts for consideration for the 1985 Annals of Dyslexia.
