Foreword ISSN 1560-3547, Regular and Chaotic Dynamics, 2011, Vol. 16, Nos. 1–2, p. 1. c Pleiades Publishing, Ltd., 2011. DOI: 10.1134/S1560354711010011 From 7 to 11 December 2009 a workshop on “New Directions in Dynamical Systems” took place at Leiden in the Netherlands, dedicated to recent developments in the area of dynamical systems; specifically Hamiltonian systems, stochastic aspects of the dynamics, ergodic theory and applications. The workshop was organized in honor of Henk Broer’s 60th birthday and Regular and Chaotic Dynamics generously offered to dedicate this special issue to him. Some of the articles are based on talks which were delivered at the workshop, whereas others present work which is close to Henk’s interests. We think that these articles give an impression of the originality, breadth and depth of Henk’s mathematical research. We like to thank those who made this possible. First our co-organizers of the workshop, George Huitema and Floris Takens(†). Furthermore we thank the Lorentz Center in Leiden, in particular Gerda Filippo and Martje Kruk, for taking care of all practical matters in organizing the conference. Next we thank the Koninklijke Nederlandse Akademie van Wetenschappen (KNAW), the NWO-cluster Nonlinear Dynamics of Natural Systems (NDNS+), the Foundation Compositio Mathematica http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png Regular and Chaotic Dynamics Springer Journals
