Foreword

Foreword The Annals of Dyslexia is an interdisciplinary peer-reviewed journal published by The International Dyslexia Association. The focus of the journal is on the understanding, prevention, and remediation of reading disability. Although primary em- phasis is placed on original research articles, we also publish significant reviews and well-documented reports of effective practice. We invite submissions to the journal from members of the Association as well as from other researchers, educators, and clinicians concerned with reading acquisition and reading disability. Each year, the combination of papers published in Annals seems to take on a life of its own. This year, what is most strik- ing is the critical attention paid to empirical evidence in refin- ing theoretical explanations and creating practical solutions for those questions that have long challenged the student of dyslexia. As the tools we have available to address these impor- tant questions become increasingly sophisticated, it is reassur- ing that the findings obtained do not refute prior research, but rather help us to understand how to reconcile what has previ- ously seemed contradictory. On the theoretical side, a major focus this year is on rapid serial naming.
