Foreword Acta ApplicandaeMathematicae 37" 1, 1994. 1 9 1994 Kluwer Academic Publishers. Printed in the Netherlands. During 1-5 March 1993, in the town of Centro (Ferrara), Italy, we had the pleasure of attending a most interesting international workshop dedicated to Mathematical Problems for Navier--Stokes Equations. The papers collected in this volume are the content of some of the stimulating lectures delivered there. They are related to several fundamental topics such as flows in unbounded domains, free-boundary problems, attractors, and the theory of compressible and non- Newtonian fliuds. The workshop would not have been possible without the financial backing of several sources. In this regard, we are particulary indebted to the Cassa di Risparmio di Ferrara, Plant Group Centro, VM Motori, Unione Industriale della Provincia di Ferrara, and to MURST 40% and 60% contracts at the University of Ferrara.
