Estimation of heavy metal resistance in the second generation of creeping bentgrass (Agrostis solonifera) obtained by cell selection for resistance to these contaminants and the ability of this plant to accumulate heavy metals

Creeping bentgrass plants have been grown from seeds obtained from plants subjected to cell selection for resistance to heavy metals and NaCl, and the sensitivity of the plants and seeds to cadmium, copper, zinc and lead in the soil has been assessed. The data obtained demonstrate the conservation of tolerance to the ecological factors studied in the seeds of second-generation plants. Cross-resistance to pollutants was observed in some cases. The plants obtained can be recommended for the remediation of heavy-metal contaminated soils in urban ecosystems. http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png Applied Biochemistry and Microbiology Springer Journals

Abstract

Creeping bentgrass plants have been grown from seeds obtained from plants subjected to cell selection for resistance to heavy metals and NaCl, and the sensitivity of the plants and seeds to cadmium, copper, zinc and lead in the soil has been assessed. The data obtained demonstrate the conservation of tolerance to the ecological factors studied in the seeds of second-generation plants. Cross-resistance to pollutants was observed in some cases. The plants obtained can be recommended for the remediation of heavy-metal contaminated soils in urban ecosystems.
