Development of Blood Compatible Composite Using MPC Copolymer and Polyolefin for Non-PVC Blood... Polyolefin is a good candidate for a blood bag material alternative to the poly (vinyl chloride) (PVC) blood bag that contains di-2-ethylhexyl phthalate (DEHP). However, polyolefin readily adsorbs some plasma proteins and platelets. To prevent these undesired adsorption, 2-methacryloyloxyethyl phosphorylcholine (MPC) — hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA) — lauryl methacrylate (LMA) copolymers with varying monomer ratios were synthesized and used as blended material for additives to reduce platelet adsorption.
