The influence of the rate of batch heating on the pore structure of the special coke (rexil) formed from low-grade coal is considered. The mean pore size and thickness of the pore walls are determined for the coke. Above a critical heating rate (15°C/min), an active structure of the special coke develops. Analysis establishes a clear correlation: the pore size and thickness of the pore walls decrease with increase in heating rate.
