Congresses The THIRD INTERNATIONAL CONGRESS on the HISTORY OF OCEANOGRAPHY will be held at Woods Hole, Massachusetts, U.S.A., September 22-26, 1980. As part of the celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, the CONGRESS will be followed the next week (Sept. 29 - Oct. 4) by an ASSEMBLY on current and future oceano- graphy. The congress has the approval of both the International Union of History and Philosophy of Science and the Centre International d'His- toire de l'Oc~anographie. Expressions of interest in this congress, particularly from those who plan to contribute papers on any aspect of the History of Oceano- graphy, will be most welcome as soon as possible. Daniel Merriman, Professor Emeritus of Biology, Yale University, has accepted the Chair- manship and all communications should be addressed to him at 298 Sperry Road, Bethany, Connecticut 06525, U.S.A. BRITISH-DUTCH MEETING ON THE ECOLOGICAL IMPACT OF LARGE HYDRAULIC EN- GINEERING PROJECTS, from 13 to 16 September 1978 at Middelburg, The Ne- therlands; organized by the British Estuarine and Brackish Water Scien- ces Association, the Dutch Hydrobiological Society and the Dutch Ocea- nographer's Club.
