Congress SECOND INTERNATIONAL CONGRESS OF ECOLOGY, Israel, Jerusalem, I0 -16 Sep- tember 1978. This congress will take place under the auspices of: International As- sociation for Ecology (INTECOL), Ecology Section of the International Union of Biological Sciences (IUBS), Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities, National Council for Research and Development, and Environ- mental Protection Service. Objectives: the congress will discuss and review topics of current in- terest in ecology. The scientific program will be designed to promote international co-operation and interdisciplinary contacts. Themes: A. Structure and function of desert and semi-desert ecosystems. B. Structure and function of tropical forest ecosystems. C. Ecological effects of development projects. D. Recent advances in ecological the- ory. E. Other topics: 1. ecological monitoring;2, coastal zone; 3. bio- geochemical cycles; 4. general. F. Sessions organized by Intecol work- ing groups. G. Pre-congress sessions. Furthermore, there will be a possibility of holding workshops, working groups and ad hoc discussions initiated by participants. Provision will be made for Poster Sessions, exhibitions and scientific films. Two two-day excursions will be held on 15-|6 September. A numberof post-congress excursions will be available, including desert trips to the Sinai Desert conducted by the Society for the Protection of Nature.
