Calcium Reduction of Zirconium Oxide Compounds

Calcium Reduction of Zirconium Oxide Compounds We have determined the adiabatic temperature of the calcium reduction of ZrO2 and CaZrO3 (1525 and 1040 K, respectively) and the reaction onset temperature. In a mixture of reagents under an argon atmosphere in a reactor, it is about 1123 K and is determined by the calcium melting onset. If calcium particles with CaCl2 film on their surface are used as a reducing agent, reduction begins at a temperature of 1023 K in an argon atmosphere and at 973 K in vacuum. By reduction for 3 h at a temperature of 1023 K, we have obtained zirconium powder containing 0.36% oxygen and having a specific surface area of 0.35 m2/g. http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png Inorganic Materials Springer Journals

Abstract

We have determined the adiabatic temperature of the calcium reduction of ZrO2 and CaZrO3 (1525 and 1040 K, respectively) and the reaction onset temperature.
