Book reviews BOOK REVIEWS 95 PART IV BOOK REVIEWS "WORD-BLINDNESS" IN SCHOOL CHILDREN AND OTHER PAPERS ON STREPHOSYMBOLIA (SPECIFIC LANGUAGE DISABILITY- DYSLEXIA) 1925-1946 By SAMUr~L TORR~.Y ORTON, M.D. Compiled by June Lyday Orton. Published by The Orton Society, Inc., Box 153, Pomfret, Conn. 06258. Monograph No. 2, 1966. $3.50. The publication of these 19 articles related to dyslexia that were written by Dr. Samuel T. Orton between 1925 and 1946 is a great service to all who are interested in any way in language disabilities. The reproduction of these selected papers in one volume brings together material which probably cannot be found in any one library. In addition to the selected papers in this volume there is a bio- graphical sketch of Dr. Orton's life, a tribute to him by one of his students, Dr. John M. Dorsey, and a reprint of Dr. Orton's remarks on "The Philosophy of Psychiatry." The bibliography of all of his writings which appears at the end of the book contains 58 publications (including the I9 related to dyslexia) which he wrote between 1905 and 1946. Here we find evidence of the broad background of scientific study which he brought to the topic of dyslexia.
