Aldershot, Brookfield USA, Hong Kong, Singapore, Sydney. ISBN 1-85628- 545-6. Price s Desert encroachment is an increasing environmental problem in the semiarid and arid regions, menacing the live base of millions of people in the desert belts and adjacent zones around our planet. The accelerated expansion of the great deserts must be regarded as a global consequence of environmental degradation followed by rapid deterioration of the world's natural resource base. The threat of desertification is particularly known from Africa, espe- cially from the Sahelian Zone where catastrophic droughts affect the live of the people, but the problem is also relevant to other dry regions in Central and East Asia, Australia and South America. Various strategies have been elaborated to combat desert encroachment in the jeopardized regions - however, in Ghana little success has been reached so far in halting environmental degradation, and desertification continues to threaten the people in the fragile northern savannah region. With his book the author has made an attempt to identify the causes and consequences of environmental problems of the people http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png Agroforestry Systems Springer Journals
