Following the annotated bibliography (see review in Agroforestry Systems Vol. 12, No. 3, 285) this is one of the outstanding monographs on fast- growing and/or promising timber trees, formerly issued in the series 'Fast Growing Timber Trees of the Lowland Tropics', later replaced by the 'Tropical Forestry Papers'. This publication not only summarizes the results of extension OFI work on provenance variation in Cordia alliodora but also reviews all the infor- mation on the species published up to 1987. It is intended to provide the manager with an insight into past experience with the species and to draw attention to the range of management options that are available. Cordia alliodora is a fast-growing forest tree of continental tropical America from central Mexico to northern Argentina, also with a wide occurence among the Caribbean islands.
