Does it refer to agroforestry and does it offer new information? It is almost a matter of course that books in the Springer series of Ecological Studies deserve special attention, and it is therefore that a careful reading is essential for all those concerned with savanna ecosystems management. To recall some facts: tropical savannas occupy the greater parts of Africa, Australia and South America. It is only recently that their ecology, their plant and animal species and their role for millions of people has been studied in a multi-disciplinary way, inter- regionally and in detail. This book comprises papers presented at a symposium and workshop in South Africa in 1979. These papers have been revised in the meantime and updated.
