Book reviews Editor: Barbara A. Pleteher, Ph.D. THE MANAGEMENT OF BUSINESS LOGISTICS by John J. Coyle and Edward J. Bardi (St. Paul: West Publishing Co., 1976. 300 pp. $15.95) Authors Coyle and Bardi have succeeded in providing an introductory level busi- ness logistics book that balances marketing and production considerations. The book is easier to read and comprehend than other logistics texts on tbe market; yet is is not oversimplified. Examples arc used widely to explain difficult concepts. The authors employ the link-node concept to present the framewoork of logistics manage.merit and the funtional relationships among the components of a business logistics system. A node is defined as a point in the logistics systems where commodi- ties are at rest. Transportation is the link that connects the nodes. The work contains twelve chapters organized into four parts. In Part 1, the frame- work of business logistics is presented, followed by a discussion of the various macro and micro environments o(. logistics. This introdt,ctory section establishes the role of logistics in the economy and within the firm, Part 2 covers the nod~'d functions of inventories, warehousing, materials handling, and packaging.
