SamenvattingWanneer mensen in contact komen met hydroïdpoliepen en kwallen kunnen ze lokale toxische huidreacties krijgen, zoals roodheid, papels, vesikels, urticaria en oedeem. Ook systemische symptomen zijn mogelijk, zoals algehele malaise, misselijkheid en soms zelfs anafylactische shock. Bijzonder is dat een in regressie gegaan huidbeeld weken tot maanden na het eerste contact soms plots weer kan opvlammen, zelfs tot buiten het aanrakingsgebied. Hoewel u patiënten met dit soort problemen niet dagelijks zult zien, neemt de kans daarop wel toe doordat mensen vaker verre reizen maken en watersporten beoefenen.
