The course will comprise a six week program of lectures and field visits to commercial properties and experimental stations in tropical and subtropical Australia. The objectives are to inform participants of the range of fodder tree species available to agriculture, to review their environmental adaptions, and to examine their role in animal production, soil fertility improvement and erosion control. The course is specifically aimed at those people interested in using multipurpose tree legumes for: 1. improving forage availability in small-holder livestock systems 2. developing sustainable agroforestry farming practices 3. rehabilitating degraded lands. The course will commence with a 2 week series of lectures, demonstrations and practical classes at the University of Queensland given by staff of the University and of CSIRO in Brisbane. The University of Queensland is located seven kilometres from the city centre on a magnificent 114 hectare site in a bend of the Brisbane River.
