Childs, Chairman Anna Gillingham Memorial Committee Even after a year it is hard to realize that Anna Gillingham is really gone. She had been so very vividly "here" for so many people, for me for nearly fifty years. All of us are trying to carry on her work as she would have wanted it. Happily, she lived long enough to see the great change of the last few years, and the in- creasing acceptance of her work in many places. One "Gillingham fan" said, "Anna Gillingham's contribution to education is inestimable. Her methods have been tremendously effective. With her help and guidance, frustrations, defeats, yes even delinquencies, have been averted". A Gillingham Teacher likened her to Schweitzer in "her deep perception of nature, her affection for all living things, and her complete and selfless devo- tion to her 'cause' which stirred all who knew her". Anna was genuinely moved by the recognition accorded her in 1962, when at the Annual Meeting of the Orton Society she and her work were honored.
