A Tribute in Honor of His 70th Birthday Moscow State University, Moscow, Russia DOI: 10.1134/S0012266111030013 On March 6, 2011, Anatolii Andreevich Martynyuk, the famous specialist in mechanics who made a great contribution to the development of theories of motion stability and their applications, celebrated his 70th birthday. A.A. Martynyuk was born to the family of railwayman Andrei Gerasimovich Martynyuk in the Cherkasskaya Region in Ukraine. After the graduation from Cherkassk State Pedagogical Institute (now Cherkassk State University), he entered the postgraduate studies at the Institute of Mechanics of the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine under the supervision by Professor A.N. Golubentsev and concentrated his work on finite stability problems on a given time interval. In the three years of postgraduate studies, Martynyuk carried out research and wrote several papers in which he presented a new approach to the estimation of the motion stability on a given time interval (practical stability). These problems were considered by great scientists
