Acoustic streaming in a nematic liquid crystal layer under binary action of sound waves and viscous waves

Acoustic streaming in a nematic liquid crystal layer under binary action of sound waves and... Abstract The mechanism of acoustic streaming arising in a nematic liquid crystal layer under the binary action of sound and viscous waves is analyzed. It is shown that, for an adequate description of streaming at ultrasonic frequencies, it is necessary, in addition to convective stresses, to consider nonlinear stresses caused by the nematic structure’s relaxation in the sound field. An expression for the nonlinear relaxation’s stresses is constructed and relative contributions of convective and relaxation stresses to the formation of streaming are determined for different frequencies and different values of the layer thickness. http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png Acoustical Physics Springer Journals
