200 ABOUT THE AUTHORS Film and Photographic Arts from the Polytechnic of Central London in 1981. He is a member of the Royal Photographic Society Distinctions Advisory Board and has exhibited photographic and multimedia works internationally. Notably, ‘The Blues’ (in collaboration with Mitra Tabrizian) and ‘The Impossible Science of Being’ with Clare Birdsey, for the Photographers’ Gallery in London and the Royal Anthropological Institute of Great Britain and Ireland. Ralph Jacobson has MSc and PhD degrees from the University of London. He is currently Professor of Imaging Science, School of Communication, Design and Media, University of Westminster where he has been teaching and carrying out research on various aspects of Imaging Science for more than 25 years. He is Director of the University’s Imaging Technology Research Group. His current research interests include physical and psychophysical techniques as a means of quantifying and modelling image quality. This includes the reproduction of colour and other non-colour attributes of image quality; the optimisation of image capture conditions in applications of imaging systems, which include archival aspects and the digitisation of photographic collections.
